Ucom to invest millions in modernization of network and preparing it for 5G technology

YEREVAN, December 23. /ARKA/. The Armenian telecommunications company Ucom is planning multimillion-dollar investments in modernizing the network and preparing it for 5G technology by the end of 2021 or the beginning of 2022, Ucom CEO Ara Khachatryan told reporters on Wednesday.

“This year we plan to complete a technical task which will involves such large companies as Erickson and Nokia - and want to start a program for a complete modernization of the mobile network. This means that at the end of 2021 OR early 2022 we will have a network completely ready for 5G,” Khachatryan said.

According to him, as soon as the appropriate radio frequencies and infrastructure are provided by the government, the company will be ready to work, and before that the 4G network will become faster and more stable for subscribers.

“The 5G network will not be available yet, as many issues are still under discussion, but our network will be brought in line with those infrastructure capabilities, as in other countries that currently provide 5G,” Khachatryan said.

As for the subscribers to the fixed network, he said that within several months they will also feel a significant improvement in the quality of communication, since the company is working with international vendors to introduce the solutions due to which subscribers will receive more stable and faster communication.

“For 2021, there are clear goals and products that we want to integrate for our subscribers, offering them new services, so that in addition to the traditional ones they have the opportunity to receive new opportunities, but for now we will not open the brackets,” said Khachatryan.

As for the size of investments for planned projects, he said the company was negotiating new loans with banks.

He also noted that in 2020 the company has implemented more than 30 social programs covering also such areas as defense and education.

Communications and opportunities were provided to children from border villages to participate in various programs. Ucom also took part in the "Shoulder and Rear" program, providing various marketing and communication opportunities to companies that had products, but faced communication and marketing problems.

The Armenian company Ucom (Universal Communications) was founded in 2007. It provides high-speed symmetric Internet, IP-TV and digital telephony. –0--
